About this deal

These are the best mini ITX NAS cases for personal or business use, with 4 to 8 hot-swap HDD bays that can be 2.5-inch SATA SSDs, making them the most portable NAS server casing known to the public. All NAS solutions (regardless of brand) feature the ability to host a shared drive on your PC/Mobile/Laptop systems that are synchronized with the NAS via the network/internet, but is shown in your native operating system file manager (i.e Mac Finder or Windows Explorer) The question is, if you buy the low end i5, could you just replace the CPU yourself? Still gut my “old” i9 12900k after I upgraded to 13th gen and I´m in the process to invest in a new NAS and the H874 is on my short list.

Silverstone SST-DS380B 8 Bay Mini ITX NAS Case - Kustom

HDD Slot: Network attached storage Enclosures support 8 x 3.5” HDD(compatible 2.5” SSD), You will have more storage capacity, Support hot swap FTP/SFTP — (Secure/File Transfer Protocol) Common way of transferring files over a network using a utility like FileZilla Cable clearance is very tight but everything fits. The fully modular power supply is almost a must here. Never buy used SAS drives as they would have been run flat out for the entire warranty period (often 5 years) The Silverstone DS380 case requires an SFX PSU which is a smaller version of the standard ATX power supply. I recommend the following SFX PSUs for the Silverstone DS380 case :

I just received my TVS-h874 yesterday! I am coming from synology. I have a 920+ and 1821+. Synology has decided to “design out” multimedia Plex users as the 920+ was the last good Plex NAS from them for that purpose. THIS THING IS A BEAST!!!!!!!!!!!!! Intel UHD 770 FTW!!!! On a semi related note, I have a 920+ and 1821+ for sale. I got a couple of questions, what the largest drive size, if I populate it with three drives (minimum for Raid 5) can I add more drive later? Can I add any Size drives? Can I remove drives later and add larger drives? Bays, 2x PCIe 4 M.2 NVMe 2280, PCIe Gen 4×16 Upgrade Slot, Intel Core 12th Gen i5/i7/i9 CPU, 16-64GB DDR4 Memory, 2.5Gbe Port, 10Gb x2 Prots (Intel i9 Version), KVM, ZFS or EXT4 Setup, 3-5yr Warranty Good to see that some brands still know what’s what, and know what to focus on, while others have become a proprietary circus act, defecating all over their customers. One feature that we find a big plus is the removable air filter at the front of the two 80mm cooling fans built into the case. We also like the removable dust filter in front of the two cooling fans, this greatly aids in keeping inside the case dust free and allows for removal and cleaning.

Some things were clear, I was going for 8x 3.5” bays. It would have a server grade mini-ITX motherboard and 32GB of ECC RAM, internal SSDs for boot and I would likely need a PCIE HBA to get the number of ports required. I also wanted to keep it as compact, quiet and low-power as possible, and this would influence PSU and fan choices. You will need a 40mm cooling fan for the 9260-8i card as they run a little hot, great card though and it’s what I use) Hello I’m planing my first FreeNAS build. I’m colorist and need a shared storage solution to work direclty out of. I saw the U-Nas case listing in GPB from the UK and it was probably the same you bought, it had the same disclaimer. I'm still regretting not getting that case as it's really hard to find here in Europe.I was going to bin my little old TS-453D because I couldn’t run Proxmox without using a USB drive. After a year of utter frustration, I just discovered that I can indeed boot from the two drives on the RHS nearest the power switch. I wish someone had posted this info somewhere that google search could find (ie; not here).

Always buy the same brand, model, and capacity SAS hard drives for any one type of RAID array and port/cable

Always make sure the SAS specification matches your RAID card, for 6Gb/s SAS, buy a 6Gb/s RAID card, for 12Gb/s SAS, buy a 12Gb/s RAID card

Aside from the internal 3.5″ drive bays, the platform has access to 2-4 additional 2.5″ mounting points for SSDs, making it a great hybrid platform. SilverStone CS381 Top SSD MountsI also just built a FreeNAS box with a D1541D4U-2O8R. For me it was the excellent price and feature set of that board that was a no brainier. The only thing of note is that the supposedly ‘matched’ constant speed silent fans are running at different speeds (1000rpm and 1100rpm). The fan is supposed to run at 1050 RPM so I assume a that a tiny variation in speed, probably due to static pressure, is causing one to round up and one to round down. This video is exactly what I needed as I am looking to set up a home media server for my family–which will need multiple 1080p streams and 4k in the near future. Alost every device in my house is Apple based (MacBooks, iPhones, iPads). So I am wondering how Apple compatible this unit is? This is a great case and not just "for the price." There's a lot to like here. The case takes both mATX and Mini-ITX motherboards. This case is decent quality and I'm happy with the end result, however, it is a royal pain to build in. It comes with the territory to build in a small case, but this case is nearly impossible to snake cable through, and it is razor sharp (I literally sliced off a small portion of the tip of my thumb by accident). You'll need to be especially careful that you don't cut cables when finagling them due to the overly sharp edges. Now some useful information that I wished I'd had as it would have saved me time and money:
