About this deal

The Tau armor is the most iconic color, as it is in no other faction in 40k. Ochre as it’s known is a mix of brown, beige and orange. It’s worth noting that because of this, you can alter the color to your liking, from more orange to more sand. There is a lot more of this on your jetbikes. Here only the gauntlets are leather. I used VMC Cavalry brown, making sure to avoid the red cloth on the underside of his forearms and the gold detailing. I then washed the leather with Agrax Earthshade. Before you start highlighting, paint the white of the eyes with Rakarth Flesh (you can correct any mistakes you made by re-applying Darkoath Flesh).

On the Eradicators, I wanted to do something a little different with their melta rifles. The barrels are painted Brass Scorpion, then Sycorax Bronze, washed Seraphim Sepia, and then some Brass Scorpion re-layered at the business end of the barrel. This is a lazy way to simulate the heat-staining effect you can see on the studio models. I did a similar thing on the engines for the Outrider’s bikes.Other than that, the way I painted them is the same as all my other Crimson Fists, as per one of our very earliest HTPEs and extracted below for convenience:

As with most of these how-to guides, this scheme is design with army painting in mind, so easy to replicate on multiple models, fast and efficient. Ochre Armor Taurox the Brass Bull - An all-mighty Doombull who was responsible for laying a trail of destruction all across the lands of the Great Forest of Talabecland. Cast in the form of a grotesquely muscled Doombull, Taurox looms over his followers, a mountain of living brass with curving, bladed horns and a gnashing metal maw that constantly drools with gore. [1d] Start with a base coat of Rhinox Hide, then we will use our reddish brown from the armor to highlight. This will give our army a cohesive color palette, as we end up using the same colors for different purposes. Taking into account color theory, particularly complimentary and split-complementary colors, the choice to list these hues was made. Paint the beard stubble by mixing Administratum Grey with Kislev Flesh and applying it as a thin glaze (watered down layer) to the bottom of the cheekbones and the chin. You may need to apply additional layers after the first layer has dried. Wait for each layer to dry before applying the next layer.Highlight almost all the gold with Scale 75 Dwarven Gold, leaving the Necro Gold in just the recesses. Lightly dry brush Baneblade Brown over the raised patterns of the overcoat. This requires a very light touch. Be subtle. Highlight the edge of the overcoat. It really depends on how dark or light you want to color wood. The base color is in my opinion more or less the most important part as it creates the base setup of how it should look in the end. The rest works, atleast for me, pretty much always the same.

Do you have a bottle of ProAcryl transparent white? No? Go get some. This is the best paint I’ve added to my collection in years. Finally, it’s not very visible on the final model, but the soft leather/cloth like the seat was simply: Wash the gold with Gloss Reikland Fleshshade. Necro Gold is a somewhat greenish gold, and the red tones in the fleshshade warm up the colors while retaining the darker tone. I layered RMS Polished Bone but only on the skull of the cheast eagle, then highlighted the whole chest eagle with Vallejo Model Color White [ White Scar, but VMC White is my favourite white when it comes to coverage]. There’s just one last thing to show you for this scheme, the power lance blade. You could use this for any of the power weapons custodes wield.

Drybrush the darker metal areas with Ironbreaker, and highlight the lighter areas with Scale 75 Heavy Metal. For the hair, I once again started with Doombull Brown and this time highlighted with Reaper Tarnished Copper, then again with Tarnished Copper mixed with a bit of Wild Rider Red.Along the edges of the sleeves and inner coat, paint small parallel lines of Skrag Brown. Then paint small random dots of Skrag Brown on the rest of the sleeves and inner coat. Be subtle, don’t be heavy handed. Vallejo Game Color Brown Ink [you can also use thinned Doombull Brown] was used to deep shade around the screws.
