About this deal

Installing an Arctic P12 Max is no different than any other Arctic Fan, or just generally any other fan. Each fan has a flat cable with a 4-pin PWM connector to power these fans. PWM range is quite good on these fans. Finally, it should be noted that the cable does not have any mesh, just the typical plastic coating. Terminates in a 4-pin PWM connector.

The P12 Max might not have beaten the A12x25 in its Nosie-to-Performance ratio, but the P12 Max still landed in the upper 10% whilst having an enormous performance overhead that most other fans just don't come with. The P12 Max features a closed fan wheel design. The advantage of this fan wheel combination is a pressure stability without compromise. In scenarios with high pressure resistances and higher speeds, the force effect is distributed uniformly over the entire fan wheel and enables low-vibration rotation while maintaining high static pressure. The be quiet! Silent Wings Pro 4, ENDORFY Fluctus 120 PWM ARGB, and Arctic P12 are not the overall winners, but deliver very solid results in all tests. All fans are clearly audible at 1400 RPM. Interestingly, the Arctic P12 Max is the least noisy fan here but is also slightly below average in terms of the air it moves. Then again, it also has the widest RPM range of all of these fans. Performance at 1800 RPM Quiet yet powerful case fans: Cooler Master Mobius (bottom left), MSI Silent Gale P12 (bottom right), DeepCool FK120 (top left) and Arctic P12 (top right)

The MSI Silent Gale P12, DeepCool CF120, and Cooler Master Mobius 120 still perform very well in the 120mm case fan test, even when nearly inaudible. As we have noted many times, Arctic is a manufacturer that focuses on the performance of its products above the rest of the frills, offering excellent performance at a low noise level, and above all at very competitive prices; All this has made it one of the manufacturers that sells the most refrigeration products in Europe, and for a reason. The premium quality of the dual ball bearing allows 24/7 continuous operation without compromising performance. Contamination and high temperatures affect this bearing much less than ordinary sleeve or ball bearings. Therefore, the double ball bearing is the perfect choice if you want to ensure continuous operation at maximum speed. If you are looking for a quiet and powerful fan, Arctic has the perfect solution for you! With the Arctic P12 PWM Max fan , the popular Arctic P12 has been equipped with extra cooling performance and now manages to direct even more cool air onto your components. Thanks to the universal frame design and the high static pressure, the Arctic P12 PWM Max fans can be used in cases, on coolers and on radiators. To preface one point: In relation to the speed, the Arctic P12s are really relatively quiet. This was already the strength of the regular Arctic P12. The volume measurement certifies the Arctic P12 Max even quieter use, if you adjust the speeds. However, there are three things to consider here:

Let’s start by measuring the loudness, the aspect that can worry us the most in a fan as fast as this one. To measure the noise it emits, we have used a Protmex PPM-SM001 sound level meter at an exact distance of 50 centimeters, since by doing it this way the data we obtain is measured in dBA. As always, we have made two measurements: one letting the fan work by PWM, and another forcing it to work at maximum speed with a rehobús. This is the result. Building up on the success of the P12 PWM, the P12 Max extends the controllable speed to an impressively wide range from 200 RPM up to 3300 RPM. This enables a quiet operation when low airflow is needed and also an unprecedented level of performance on heatsinks and radiators. The P12 Max provides a significant performance boost to existing air and water cooling solutions.

Even at low speeds the operating sound of the new ARCTIC motor is barely noticeable. Due to a sinus-magnetizing the new motor only creates about 5 % of the vibration from commutation of a regular DC-motor without filter. The rubber pads mounted at the corners additionally dampen the residual vibrations caused by the higher revolutions. Curiously, and despite being the highest-speed fan of all we’ve tested so far, it’s by no means the loudest; in fact, when we have carried out the test in PWM mode, since the PC was at rest the fan was off, so those 16.5 dBA that we have measured are, really, the environmental noise that we had in the room when measuring. Already at full speed we measured 33.4 dBA, making it the loudest 120mm fan we’ve ever had, but not the loudest in absolute terms (the 140mm ML140 was quite a bit louder and that which spins at 2,000 RPM).Last but not least, I had the problem that the PWM control of these fans spun during the test on my ASUS B450-F and the Arctic P12 Max was thus subject to strong speed fluctuations. Very annoying issue. I was able to fix this problem by changing the fan control from PWM to DC. Arctic was able to confirm that this error occurs with this and other motherboards. With other motherboards, I was able to control the fans normally on the first try. In the meantime, Arctic has added a corresponding note to its manual:

On the plus side, the Arctic P12 Max does have vibration-dampening rubber pads on the housing, which seems like a good idea for a 3,000-rpm fan. Test Setup Firstly, why are they controlling a PWM fan with voltage? Arctic do make P12 3-pin voltage-controlled variants (that are even cheaper, lol)Following the P12 A-RGB pattern, Arctic also lines the rotors of the unlighted P12 Max fans with a circular hoop. This is the key modification that sets the new Arctic P12 Max fan apart from the P12. When leaving the low-RPM fans behind and maxing out the high-speed models, the premium fans from Noctua and Phanteks can clearly push more air through the radiator. But the Arctic P12 Max can offer an air/noise profile that’s on par (within the margin of error) with the Silent Wings Pro 4. Conclusion: Formidable Value and Surprisingly Low Noise
