About this deal

I brought him a ‘grown up’ bedding set with his favourite Thomas the Tank Engine cover to show that he was not a baby any more. Using images of the stars and the sun, and colours to represent each (blue and yellow, respectively), the clock teaches your kid when he’s supposed to be sleeping and when he’s allowed to wake up, using the times you've preset. Suitable from 2 years, the clock is designed to teach children when it’s time to sleep and when it’s time to wake up, either at nap time or in the morning. Some parents report using it successfully with an 18-month-old, but most say two is around the right age to start using a toddler alarm clock. Maybe they’re just in the habit, or they have FOMO, or they’re slowly but surely trying to suck the life out of us.

If Izzy is a little grouchy and doesn’t seem keen to go to bed we ask her shall we go and say Goodnight to the Sun and she will eagerly say YES. I have written a whole series of stories for 7 - 11 years olds, as well as more poems for picture books for the 3 - 6 year olds.

My eldest has a gro-clock and it has worked pretty well, but I agree that a battery option would be good as my youngest is much more pickle-y and needs something like a clock put well out of reach – which I can’t do if it needs plugging in! For kids to understand the Gro Clock, they have to understand that at night, the sun goes away, the stars come out, and that's when we sleep. By counting down the stars and waiting for the screen to turn yellow, children learn what time they can get out of bed – as set by their parents. If we go up to his room for anything other than sleep, so long as he sees Mr Sun and we say hello, he knows I’m not going in there to put him to bed. There is a key lock feature but this can only be activated once the sleep times are activated and I would have liked to be able to lock the clock all of the time.

The Gro Clock is a great bedtime aid and is a product I can see coming more into its own as BattleKid gets older and as he moves from cot to bed. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. The easiest way to explain the difference between night and day is to use the sun and moon, and we thought it would be great to have a bedtime story book that helps explain the benefits of sleep. It doesn’t wake Eliza up too much, which means I can dream feed quietly and gently and pop her straight back into bed. The Gro-Clock is also great for helping during time changes, either before travelling to a place in a different time zone or when gaining or losing an hour in the spring and autumn.

As with all Gro products, these are well thought out, practical, easy to use and designed with children and parents in mind. Since bringing this into our bedtime routine BattleKid will now actively look to get into his cot, without the protests we were getting, ready for his story (or nap if during the day). Chopsy Baby just couldn’t believe there was a product in the world that would make a wilful toddler understand that the day doesn’t start at 5am, so we decided it had to be tested. In the Autumn of 2023, I produced a set of videos, showing what I present on the in-person school visits.
