The contrast she’s construed in terms of her upbringing, traits and surroundings with Jonathan’s is nothing less than perfectly imperfect. Maddie is a fan of Breezeo but she didn't knew that his father is the one who plays the role of her favourite superhero. He tried to make amends over the years, but he just couldn’t fight his inner demons and Kennedy knew it and therefore banished him from her life.

Therefore, the special attention given to weaknesses and failures isn’t to be taken frivolously regardless of their circumstances or age. The way that this second chance romance unravels and the way the author gives the reader the POV from the past? i couldn’t forget to mention that she is also an incredible mother – her relationship with Maddie is so precious and it’s one of my favorite things about this book. These second-person chapters were slow-going at first, where I was wondering what exactly was happening, but I got super into them once I realized where the story was going. We get to see the differences between the Jonathan now, and the one that Kennedy had to leave behind.

Everything I do is all about her – anything to keep the smile on her face, because that smile is what keeps me going. Some years later, the start of the present-day part of the book, we meet Kennedy, a woman making a living as a supermarket manager, and a single mother to a five-year-old little girl named Madeline, or Maddie for short. There is absolutely nothing I would change about this book: not a character, not any aspect of the plot, and certainly not the writing style, which I’ll get to later. I have previously read Darhower’s Sempre and I noticed that she thrives in writing about extensive character developments in her story.It ruined me in the best possible way, and I cannot recommend it highly enough—every devastatingly perfect second of it. While Jonathan is seeing more of the world, Kennedy is holding fort in their home and slowly losing herself in the process.
