About this deal

We understand that every gardener wants success, and the foundation of that lies in the quality of the seeds and plants they choose.

Other slug pellets, those based on metaldehyde or methiocarb, should NEVER be used in an organic garden. These products are produced in high quality laboratories using state of the art equipment, by experts. The treatment will be much less effective if the soil temperature falls below 5ºC (40ºF) after application. A typical package contains enough to treat a stated 25 square metre area, (12 million infected nematodes), not just a few! The nematodes reproduce inside the dead pest and release a new generation of hungry nematodes, which disperse to hunt down further prey. The Nematodes are supplied in a pack of 30 million and are a natural predator to slugs, to treat a area of 100 m2. Although not visible to us, slugs are really snails and do have a “shell” hidden underneath the slug’s mantle.

Regularily applying Nemaslug every six weeks is the best way to keep slugs at bay throughout the growing season. Start your control regime early and you will be able to target the young slugs growing under the ground feeding on humus. This extended, slow-release slug control is a safe alternative to chemicals, harmless to wildlife, pets, and humans, will not washaway.Once they have killed the pest for which they have been bred they die back to their natural numbers.

Start your slug control early and apply at least a week before planting to ensure your garden is safe from slugs. Then the nematodes become free and active and are applied to the soil surface using a watering can, conventional hydraulic spraying and irrigation systems. The best time is in the early morning or evening because the nematodes are sensitive to ultraviolet rays. I was made aware of a recent press article in the Daily Telegraph about a home made slug killing soup! The two organisms, have to be kept at ideal temperatures and conditions throughout the whole process.Barriers, thought to repel slugs, include rough or sharp textured mulches and substances thought to be distasteful or strong smelling.

metres per second (compare this with Usain Bolt who runs a thousand times faster, at 12 mts per second. One application of Nemaslug Slug Killer will provide at least 6 weeks control of all common species of small to medium sized garden slugs. Thanks for the message and there as some species of nematodes that in lab conditions may affect bees (there are hundreds of species of nematodes) but the ones used in Nemaslug have not been shown to have any effect and are safe for bees. The product is less effective on cloggy clay soil, which has not been worked and/or has become waterlogged. There are many control options available for slugs and snail but despite this they remain a persistent pest. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3. Thanks for the question and snails are much harder to kill than slugs but the nematodes will work especially on the young snails, so keep applying them and as the older snails die / are predated on, if there are less young snails, then your numbers will decrease. These predators have a significant impact on the slug population, but many of the chemicals used in slug pellets can be toxic to these predators, so if you use them, you run the risk of harming them.
